What's new on Netflix January 2017The clock is ticking and as we count down to 2017, we hope the new year brings us everything we wish for and more. But as the year unwraps, we have something to look forward to -- an explosion of binge-worthy series, movies and Netflix originals to keep you company.

Originals
Netflix's highly anticipated Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events unravels the story of the Baudelaire orphans -- Violet, Klaus, and Sunny –- who have to stand up against their evil guardian Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) who plans to get his hands on their inheritance following their parents' mysterious death. If you like the popular books, this series might just be your guilty pleasure. Another series unveiling its new season is Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments. When it comes to original films, Clinical is the one to watch out for. A psychiatrist is haunted by visions of her violent attack as she treats a new patient.

Action Obsessed
Will Smith, Bradley Cooper, Chris Evans and Channing Tatum. What do they have in common? Good looks? Yes, you read my mind, but these Hollywood hunks bring their pecs, good looks and acting chops to films arriving on the stream scene this month. Will Smith and Margot Robbie star in Focus, a con drama that will bring to the table all the schemes that you never saw coming. Bradley Cooper plays Chris Kyle, a Navy SEAL officer in American Sniper while Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger brings Chris Evans back as the film focuses on the early days of the Marvel Universe. Stars align as Channing Tatum joins Mila Kunis in the sci-fi film Jupiter Ascending.

Die-hard Drama
Shonda Rhimes' Scandal season 6 is set to hit ABC and just a day later you will be able to view it on Netflix. The weekly episodes in the new season bring a power shift as the highly anticipated election results are revealed. Stakes are high and the drama just gets juicier. Suits season 5 Part B will also be available in the new year with new scandals and new cases to keep you legally entertained.

Animation
Disney's Alice Through the Looking Glass takes you along another journey with Alice (Mia Wasikowska), who is reunited with White Rabbit (Michael Sheen), Absolem (Alan Rickman), the Cheshire Cat (Stephen Fry) and the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp). Another adventure awaits this gang and you are invited to join them. If that isn't your ideal adventure, maybe a trip with Big Hero 6 might be the movie to watch with the kids.

Happy Streaming! ~Marriska Fernandes
