Trinitie Childs (Regina Hall), the first lady of a prominent Southern Baptist Mega Church and her husband, Pastor Lee-Curtis Childs (Sterling K. Brown), live in palatial spendor. When there are allegations of sexual impropriety on the part of the pastor, they lose their followers and the church closes.
As they try to rebuild their congregation, they're followed in their daily lives by a documentary filmmaker, who, rather than helping their cause, is trying to make them look bad.
