All of my best memories of Christmas are tied to Christmas Eve celebrations with my Grandparents in their home with the rest of the family in attendance. We have a large family and Gramma and Grampas home was small so seating was limited. It was always a game to see who could sit the longest before getting up to get a coffee or supper or go to the bathroom. Once up the chair was fair game for the next person to fill it. It was our version of Christmas Musical Chairs.

  15. Amy Moylan • 12/15/2017 10:15:21 AM

My favourite Christmas memory is gathering with our whole family Christmas Eve to have a Snack Supper - we would play lots of card games and board games and just eat appetizers all night. We always laughed the most on those nights and just enjoyed being together.

I wrote about this story for another answer but my best Christmas memory was opening my first Nintendo Entertainment System as a kid because my parents went all out making it look like it came from Santa. They didn't put it under the tree but left it in the fireplace and the wrapping paper was covered in droplets of water to make it look like Santa had just come in from the snow and dropped it off. It was magical for a little kid and I was ecstatic to open up a Nintendo.

I had an interesting/memorable Christmas back in 1986 - I lived in Australia and with it being so hot (their Summer) we ate a cold Christmas dinner (most of it was prepared/cooked the night before because of the heat!?) and it was so strange not to see snow but rather green grass outside!?... many Aussies go to the beach on Christmas Day but we ate and exchanged gifts but in the evening we had a BBQ!... great memories!!!

  40. Giant Sis • 12/15/2017 11:42:24 AM

  42. Joylyn Tuuri • 12/15/2017 11:44:35 AM

Watching my daughter open Christmas presents for the first time. She kept getting upset if you tried to get her to open another one because she just wanted to play with the one that was in front of her.

  43. Liisa Stover • 12/15/2017 11:44:46 AM

Because I love all things horror, my fave xmas memory was from when I was 3 or 4 and my family all got together; cousins, aunts, grandparents etc... I was asleep at the time, and my cousin got up in the middle of the night, and there in the hall way was my toddler sized doll walking towards him!! He was terrified and ran to get his brothers, who came and found the doll lying in the hallway. He swears up and down that the thing was standing up and coming for him! In the morning, I was allowed to play with my new doll, but my parents didn't let me bring it home!!

  114. Jenn Meade • 12/15/2017 12:33:10 PM

Jenn Meade - my favorite Christmas memory would be the Christmas we spent with my grandparents in 1990 - their house had burned down a week prior to Christmas due to an electrical fire, my uncle managed to save everyone in the house but it burned flat. My grandparents and uncle were moved to temporary housing in one of the empty PMQ's on the military base and that is where we all spent Christmas together - everyone came together and we had a wonderful Christmas despite the fire taking everything.

My dad has past now but my best memory is of him opening gifts. Even at the age of 60 he giggled like a kid. His childhood he may get 1 gift sooo Christmas gifts were always precious to him. His giggle I loved.

  125. Frances Lennie • 12/15/2017 12:46:23 PM

I remember one very special and romantic Christmas Eve when I was young. My boyfriend and I were visiting friends and family and it started to snow just a few hours before midnight - big fluffy giant snowflakes! Until then there was not a hint of snow and by Christmas morning it was a winter wonderland. My folks were still alive and vigorous - I was just a young woman with the man who was later to marry and and my heart was filled with the joy and wonder of Christmas - and of life! It's a beautiful memory!

  126. Holly Daniels • 12/15/2017 12:46:35 PM

My best Christmas memories were always spent at my Grandparents house. The house full of people laughing, eating, kids excited that "Santa" stopped there with gifts too. My Grandma's amazing cooking, and her famous ricotta cheesecake. That's what Christmas is all about. Just enjoying each other.

  127. D Jones • 12/15/2017 12:47:31 PM

My best holiday memory is the first Xmas my boys were old enough to get excited about leaving cookies out for Santa, and opening the gifts he'd left the next morning.

  128. Susan Hanley • 12/15/2017 12:49:56 PM

Our first baby was born in mid December and we brought her home from the hospital less than a week before Christmas. We didn't have a tree yet so out we went with a baby that was days old. Every one at the tree lot was oohing and awing over her. It was a wonderful Christmas.

  129. Daniel Schneider • 12/15/2017 12:55:36 PM

Daniel Schneider. My best Christmas was 1989 I remember while I was sleeping I heard this metal slamming noise and it woke me up and my Mom played it so cool. She said that must be Santa on the roof arriving in his slay. She said you hot to go back to bed now lol. When I woke up in the morning I ran to the living room and the milk and cookies I had left were gone and the glass and plate were empty. Presents were all over the place and I couldn't figure out which one I wanted to open first so I just went for the first one on reach. I ripped through all the wrapping paper and gifts so fast. I remember getting my favorite gift of that year the Play-doh Snack Shop which was like a fast food set up. You would pretend to make ice cream , burgers, hotdogs, etc. It was so cool. I remember my friend and I wearing the chef hats that came with it and we were trying to make the best burgers and desserts for the customers. It actually was a good way to prepare you for the fast food industry and trying to be fast as well. I played with that to the death of until all the play-doh dried up in the machine and it didn't work anymore. Anyways I got a number of good gifts and my Mom I mean Santa made everything come together so right. I won't ever forget any of it.

  153. Rosanne Del Corpo • 12/15/2017 1:33:24 PM

It would have to be the last Christmas before my mom passed on where I would of been 18 years old - It was a Christmas filled with such joy - my second brother & his wife announced that we would have an additional member next year at this time, my oldest brother & my third brother both had gotten married 2 months before (yeah I have a lot of brothers - 4 to be exact & an a sister) so we had quite a bit to celebrate that Christmas - it was such a beautiful day - snowing but the snow was so fluffy & white (quite difficult to explain) haven't seen snow like that ever again. It was the best Christmas ever - I now have my own family - still try to keep up the traditions mom did with us but it's never the same - today's generation are not as sentimental like in my day. This year their is another member - my great nephew Marciano - he's 10 months old & will be his first Christmas & these toys under the tree for him would be great - he may not enjoy all of them but there are a few he will. Thank you for the chance.

Though we didn't have much because of the fire, my parents bought some 2nd hand toys including a doll carriage for me. My Poppa had painted it and put new material on its bonnet and I loved that carriage. Sometimes the years we remember best are borne out of great hardship.

Satins, silks, lace and scrap materials all loving stitched together with the finest of stitches. Each item was unique and no one else in our neighbourhood had these original creations. When I was older, I learned that my parents had about $1 to spend on each of us six children and they made it so magical! My Mom told me she would sew after we all went to bed creating these masterpieces. I remember this gorgeous blue satin strapless ball gown for my Barbie that I was so proud of!

When our daughter was little, one year all she wanted for Christmas was her very own Christmas Tree. Every time anyone asked her what she wanted, that is the only thing she would say she wanted. Christmas Morning we stood near her doorway and watched her wake up... the first thing she seen was a little (approx 18" high) Christmas Tree with mini lights all lit up and mini decorations. The first thing we heard her say was "Ohhhh, Santa!! My very own Christmas Tree!!" She was thrilled and had that tree up every year in her room until it fell apart.

My most memorable Christmas was the year my brother and I (ages 7 and 8) got bicycles. The parents hid them in the basement, in the old cold cellar room, and covered them. But we found them, and we rode them (without their knowledge). We had to be very good actors on Christmas morning and pretend we were surprised they got us bikes. :) :)

  262. Christine Schultz • 12/15/2017 5:58:51 PM

I’d then put everything back in the stocking and go wake up my brother to open our stockings together. I’d then put everything back for a third time and go wake up my parents to open it again!! Still love every part of Christmas and it’s even better now that I have 3 kids to share the excitement with.

We used to wrap up individual pieces of rawhide treats for her and she would carefully bite off every piece of paper and spit it out until she had unwrapped her present. Every year year she had a stocking under the tree just like everyone else in the family. She was the best dog. R.I.P. Nipper.

Christmas 1978...my oldest nephew was just 3 and was filled with the excitement of Christmas. He was hopping up and down all over my parents house. He was told several times not to hop on the basement stairs to the rec room. Well you guessed it, he hopped one time too many and went ass over tea kettle to the bottom of the stairs. His mom after seeing he was relatively unharmed scooped him up and sat him between us. After a short while, he looked up at his mom and said, "You know mom, I could hurt myself doing that". I shook like jelly with laughter, tears coming out of my eyes. Out of the mouths of babes...

Our 9 year old granddaughter took a craft roll of paper and on it she wrote how much she loved her Papa and G (that's what she calls me:) and listed all the things she loves about us....it was a long list and the first thing on it was she loved that we spent so much time together doing fun things....it made me cry it was so sweet and thoughtful....I have it hung in my bedroom to remind me how lucky I am!!

My best Christmas was the first year of my career. I was to join my family for Christmas a 5 hour drive away, but it was storming Christmas Eve and they closed the highways. I was so disappointed! I called the highway hotline every half hour all night, at 4:30 am I finally got the news I was waiting for, the roads were open. I called my sister's let it ring once to let them know I was on my way, they cheered and went back to sleep!

Having a bad year in junior high school (bullying teacher) my parents got me a kitten. Went and picked it up from the lady's house on Christmas Day ... she came around the corner with a little ginger kitten with a huge red bow tied around his neck. I had him for 17 years before he passed away. Called him Nicky after St. Nicholas.

My favorite memory is me and my brother planning our Christmas morning gift opening mission. We had flashlights ready and all of our presents piled up in individual piles (except those from Santa, obviously)and ready to be ripped open. It was so exciting and we barely slept a wink. But we always had to wait for Mom & Dads OK before we could start. Yes, it was all about the presents back then, but that has changed now, just to be together with family is the greatest gift of all. Those are really the best memories.

My best holiday memories were from when I was a kid and we traveled to Bondield every year to my Grandmothers for Christmas. It was only 1 hour away but all 8 of my aunt and uncles and their kids made the trip every year no matter what. There was probably about 30 of us together for the holidays and we all stayed and three or four different houses (family members). I miss those days when my grandparents were still around to enjoy the holidays with.

Ahh yes,....the finding of the perfect Christmas tree. I will no doubt remember that to the end..lol. Me and my 11 and 13 yr younger brothers lived with our Mom on a farm 32 miles out of a small town in upper BC. It was the early 70's and the night was so cold we could hear pitch in the trees snapping a mile away...so cold out! We always had at least 3-4' of snow from Nov-May... lonnnng time ago..lol. Our neighbor George used to come down to play cards and visit every couple of days and when he realized we had not gotten a Christmas tree that year (truck was not running) he told me to get in his very old truck and we would go get one right away... We were in such a hurry that I forgot to bring gloves. We had a sharp axe to chop it down and that was it. Of course I had on a thin jacket, expecting to warm myself by the heater vents. Well, a window was out and he had put up a covering of plastic to keep the wind out and he had to run the window defogger with COLD AIR ONLY constantly.. the heater was broken.. We went about 10 miles from home and found a gorgeously PERFECT tree, put it in the back of the pick-up and drove home. I kept checking on how it was doing and our friend George laughed and mocked me for doing it.. said we were on a hill so no way it was bound to jump out.. Wrong!!! We got to the bottom of the hill and when I turned to check the tree, it was to discover it had indeed bounced out ON THE HILL and because it was sooo cold and frosty, it had sheared off 1/2 of the tree neat as you please.. Of course we had to get another one and we froze on the way home..lol.. but what a memory!! hee hee hee
