I received a toy truck. My brother received a doll. Then to top it off we went to Grandmother's house to have Christmas dinner with them the day after. My gift was inside a box that had an in-shower coffee maker on it with the announcement that it helps to save time and use the hot water from your shower to make your morning coffee - this was obviously a gag box and when I opened it inside were tat-toupees (tattoo toupee) that you stick on your head to cover bald spots.... I had mentioned to my sister that I was losing my hair, it was thinning on top and you could see my scalp so she thoughtfully got me the temporary tattoos..lol and thus began our newest Christmas tradition on who can give each other the tackiest gift at Christmas :)

The strangest Christmas Gift I received came wrapped in a small square box - made to look like a jewellery box and was wrapped with a ribbon nice tied into a bow. The strangest gift was a wedding present from my Uncle. Love him to bits but he is different. He is a scholar. My new husband at the time opened out gift in front of everyone and it was an oversized off the shoulder bag. It was real leather. It was huge. The leather is very hard. It has one of those flaps rather than a proper closing zipper or closure. Unfortunately we never had the opportunity to use it. It is way too heavy and bulky to be practical. But I have to say the bag totally reminds me of him. It is not a present we look at today and ask ourselves if we know who gave it to us.
The weirdest gift I ever got was a really ugly western scarf. Too make it worse it had plastic shiny beads. The colour was so loud I wondered if it was a joke. My first Christmas with my new in laws and large extended family.Gift exchanging time came up I tried to stay in the back not expecting anything. When the youngest niece 3 shoved a gold wrapped package into my hand and excitedly said open it! Now all eyes are on me (I noticed my Mom in law twitching?) Inside this golden package were the largest underwear I have ever seen. Not sure who they were meant for lol but my little niece was very proud and spread them over the footstool like a table cloth. Welcome to the family.

The strangest gift I ever received was a pack of AA batteries. I thought at first they had bought me something that required batteries and were tricking me -nope literally just bought me batteries.
One year for Christmas I received a ceramic dog that my Grandmother had poorly painted. I was about 16. I think she got the dog at the dollar store and then decided to try to paint it? I have no idea why she thought I would want this? My brothers received painted rocks (try explaining to a 7 year old why he's getting a rock for Christmas) and my Mother (this was her mother-in-law) received a muu-muu (my Mother is not a big lady) so I guess I shouldn't feel badly. The strangest gift I ever received was my name spelled out in pinecones. It was the year our family decided we had to make a gift for the person whose name we drew. My dad drew my name and for my gift he went out into the yard and collected pinecones, made the letters of my name, shellacked them, and then glued them to a piece of wood from the garage. When I celebrated Christmas at my girlfriend's home in Scotland it was a weird experience. There I found that their Christmas carols had different words, different music. They even had a weird name for New Years's eve "Hogmanay". Got engaged on Christmas eve and the weirdness never stopped. The now inlaws got all silent and cried. Their baby girl was moving to Canada. I was happy when next year we celebrated Christmas and New Years in Canada. (PS-My favourite scottish saying was at new years when my wife asked everyone to grab a hooter and bring in the new year. Hooter is a scottish term for the horn you blow air through that makes a tooting noise.)

At the time I was sad but pretended to like it because that is what I had been taught. Now that I am an adult I think the girl that gave it probably could not afford to buy a gift so she washed and ironed the nicest thing she had.
I remember it well .... about 15 years ago, my lovely hubbie decided to surprise me with a very unusual Christmas gift. The wrapped gift box was huge so my I was very excited to see what he had given me. To my surprise, it was a Webster’s tabletop dictionary that measured about 14†X 20â€. The question “Why?†sprang to mind. What had I said that could have led him to think a dictionary was on my list of desired Christmas gifts?? But then I thought, “Who wouldn’t want a tabletop dictionary lovingly given instead of a pair of sparkly diamond earrings?†And so, it became one of my more legendary Christmas gifts.

Probably the strangest gift that i ever received was an empty bird cage-like decorative piece from my mother-in-law (she won't see this, thank Goodness). Its weird but more funny..lol. My sis came to town the week of Christmas 2007, and she had found a funny "You know you are a Redneck" stacking calendar (desk-top calendar.. you can pull off each date. The funny/weird thing is - the calendar was for 7007..lol.. I didn't get it until there were only 10 days left of 2007..lol. Nice thing is, I post a bunch of them on a game I play and we continue to enjoy that old calendar..lol.. :D

My brother has a knack for finding the weirdest, oddest gifts for me, but the absolute strangest was a wine bottle holder - it was a Viking bust (waist up) with it's hand to its mouth - the bottle would go in the wine holder upside down so that it looked as if the Viking was guzzling the wine. UGH, I had to pretend it was the most unique, neatest gift ever - then I hid it away in my daughter's closet. One night I had been digging a blanket out of her closet (she was about 4 years old) and I didn't realize that the Viking had tipped out the door a little bit and I had left the door ajar - all of a sudden we heard screaming from her room - a hand was reaching out her door trying to get her!!! She still remembers this vividly 11 years later! Needless to say the Viking has left the building!! Merry Christmas everyone, thanks for the chance Tribute!!!

I cannot remember any strange gifts that I might have received over the years, but I do remember around the 1st Christmas that my girlfriend ( now wife ) celebrated together. I gave her a mop and bucket as a Christmas gift, boy she held it in... but the next day she asked me why in the "bleep" did I give her that as a gift.... I realized my mistake, but I did say... you have been talking about getting a new mop and bucket, so I thought that you might be happy.... wrong. All was forgiven, and we have been married going on 8 years.
One Christmas I received a set of children's cookware from a co-worker. I didn't know who the person was either. I thought it must have been a mistake. I then found out that since everyone knew I didn't really enjoy cooking, it was given to me as a starter kit. It was really quite funny. I think the people watching the look on my face when I opened it got a bit of enjoyment out of it as well.
My boyfriends nana at the time gave me a used candle . They were all exchanging gifts and I was an afterthought. She grabbed it off the mantle and stuck it in a Christmas bag . I assume she didn’t know it had been used lol

Believe it or not, i received a property deed for Christmas. For what? I'm glad you asked. Well,it was for ownership of an area on the moon! No joke! According to the information included in the gift, no country is allowed to claim property rights on the moon. If that's true, then by logic, i own a piece of Little India. From the same person the next year he outdid himself with an M @ M character shower radio! A one-two punch of great gifts. Thanks for reading.

A roll of toilet paper!!!!! A crazy aunt who frightened us as children, gave us kids each a roll of toilet paper and we were frozen in our tracks and smiled and said thanks. She was rolling on the floor consumed in her creepy laugh. Turns out she hid a watch in the centre on the tube.

The Family limit on Christmas gifts was to be under $150 cdn. I really wanted a new table saw and asked for a ryobi table saw which was within the Budget including taxes. Christmas Day , in front of the whole family my "Secret Santa", gave me a Christmas card with nothing in it! All these years later I will never forget how this made me feel and if it were me and I couldn't afford the limit I would not exclude anyone from getting a Christmas present.
One of our Christmas traditions is to guess the present under the tree. When I was in elementary school, my Dad crafted empty wrapping paper rolls into a T-shape, stuffed underwear in each tube and then included some nuts in each end, then wrapped it all up. It was the strangest gift wrapping and I had no clue what it could be!

Over the years I have received quite a few gifts that I would ask myself "Really?". Not that I was upset about any of them since it's the thought that really counts anyways. I remember as a kid waking up for christmas morning late, teenager at that point, lol, and there was a cream filled donut under the tree for me. Clearly someone went to Timmy's and had bought it for me that morning! Could have used a phone with a nice camera then because with my brothers around me, needless to say, more of the donut ended up on my face then actually being consumed so it would have made for some nice social media shots, hehe.

When I was 35 years old my father found my old red sleigh in the rafters of the garage. He stripped it down and refinished the sleigh, painted it the steel parts and replaced the old rope. I received my old friend at Christmas. My Red Rocket sleigh is still my favourite Christmas gift of all time and receiving it the second time was just as exciting as receiving it the first time as a very small child. Thanks dad, you rock!

I'd have to say that in this day and age of smartphones, synching calendars/devices and such the fact that I still to this day get a big bulky "Day Planner" for Christmas from my mother after years of mentioning I no longer use them is simply beyond me! :P A grand new smartphone would be divine to help me on track for the new year. :D

It was like a great big barrette that had all these wiry things coming out of it with little multi-coloured wooden balls on the ends of them, so that when you moved, they would bobble around.
