Alan Thicke sons in war with stepmom over estate

Published By Tribute on May 18, 2017

Alan Thicke with sons Brennan and Robin in 1987When Alan Thicke passed away in December of a sudden heart attack, he left behind specific instructions as to who would get control of his estate. Unfortunately, it looks like things are going to get a little messy, because a bitter family feud is starting to boil over the who gets what.

Alan was married at the time of his death to third wife, Tanya Callau. Although they didn't have any children together, the late singer does have three sons: Brennan and Robin (from his first marriage to soap star Gloria Loring), and Carter (from his second marriage).

Robin and Brennan Thicke filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court after Tanya claimed the prenuptial agreement she signed in 2005 before marrying the late actor is not valid.

It has been reported that Alan left his three sons ownership of his California Ranch, because he wanted to keep it in the family. He purchased the home in 1989 and the kids spent some time growing up there. He also left his sons "75 percent of his personal effects and 60 percent of his remaining estate."

However, he didn't necessarily leave his wife empty handed either. She received a generous amount, including the ranch’s furnishings, 25 percent of his personal effects, $500,000 from his life insurance policy, and all benefits from his various pensions and union memberships. The remaining 40 percent of his estate was also left in her name.

“Now that Alan is dead, Tanya claims there are numerous problems with the Trust and the Prenuptial Agreement,” wrote Thicke attorney Alex Weingarten in the lawsuit. “Tanya also claims 'Marvin rights' asserting that she had to forego opportunities to pursue and advance her own career in order to support Alan and be his companion and partner, including raising Carter."

Weingarten wrote that Tanya has made threats to bash the brothers in the tabloids, and draw bad publicity to their name unless they agreed to succumb to her demands. Robin Thicke is of course, famous in his own right as the singer behind the hit song "Blurred Lines."

Tanya's attorney, Adam Streisand, has denied the claims, telling Variety: "Tanya did not threaten to go to the press. To the contrary, she said a court battle would attract the tabloid media, which she did not want, and so she encouraged everyone to get together for a family mediation to figure it all out. They refused. Repeatedly. So ask yourself, who is it that is planting stories in the press and filing lawsuits, and that’s where you’ll find the real culprits."

Sounds like she got enough, she should let the kids have their share, because going to court is only going to make lawyers rich.

Disgusting. She didn't love him. The minute he's dead, suddenly the prenup is not valid and she wants to go against his wishes for his children. Tramp.

So sad that she can't honour her husband's wishes. Greedy and selfish. And as far as her own career, gimme a break, she made that choice.

    Totally agree, she sounds money-hungry!

Everyone makes choices in this life and Alan did too. Sounds like his sons are just trying to honor their dads wishes in a hard time, and that's why they don't want to meet with her because there's nothing to discuss. She needs to be happy with what she has and got. There's a lot less fortunate people out there who can't even eat!! People need to let stuff go

Geez, sounds like he split his assets very nicely to include everyone he needed to. It's very generous. He's dead and people have very fond memories of the legacy he left behind, now there will always be this black mark in his history that the family did this after he died. Parasites.

If you read the article properly, you will see that it's Robin and Brennan who filed the lawsuit. It is Tanya who has requested (on multiple occasions) they all meet together for mediation, rather than litigation.

Yes, well, my mother died last year and most of my siblings turned into backstabbing, greedy aholes. The will was quite fair but now no one gets anything because they won't mediate. They do not want to share anything. So it may not be her. I speak from experience.

If you read the article properly it actually says they filed a lawsuit AFTER she claimed the prenup she signed is all of the sudden not valid.

My last comment was for Norma!

She made the decision to sign the prenup, so if she didn't like the contents of that document, why complain now. I understand from previous articles when Alan was alive that she spent like crazy, and in her own words 'shop til you drop'. This being all of Alan's money. She should leave his memory intact and honor his wishes. I'll never understand these women who willingly give up everything to be with 'their man' who is financially supporting them, and the minute they die, everything is reversed, and they suddenly reveal that they made all kinds of sacrifices. SHAME ON YOU TANYA!!

Watched the show a couple of times, found her to be aggressive, loud, self centred and all round not a nice person. She has not been in Alan's life as long as his sons were....she signed a pre-nup which she is legally bound to honour. They should fight her to the wall on this. She is being greedy and unreasonable.

There seems to be some "blurred lines" here between what's fair and decent. What the family needs now is love sweet love and not greenbacks dictating the legacy of a good man's life!!!

Alan, Tanya and Carter were a happy family. From watching their TV show you could see that there was love laughter and respect between the three of them. Carter may not have been Tanya's biological baby but she loves him like her own. Whatever happens now, I hope they can all come together as adults and not let greed blind them. Tanya as some of the above referred to her as greedy etc. is far from it she is a responsible caring person or Alan and her would not have been together for so many years. Good luck Tanya I sure hope this doesn't spoil yours and Carters stepmom and son relationship. As they say in Star Wars Tanya May The Powers Be With You I think it's from Star wars LOL!

She claims me made sacrifices to her career?!? You need one in the first place before you sacrifice it.

Its really sad when the guy laid out what he wanted and some greedy evil woman always wants more.It appears he gave her what he thought was fair but as usual they always want more, just evil plain and simple. She is nothing more than a bottom feeding, scum sucking, vulture. His children no matter their age have been around him their whole life. So this woman... his third wife by they way thinks she is entitled to the lions share of his estate, I wonder what makes this evil bitch tick? I'm guessing she had this plan before she married and has been counting his coin for some time. Now that he has passed its time to bring her plot into action...just sad, she should go get a job if she wants more money. Oh yeah she would rather try and screw somebody out of their money instead. I hope she chokes on any windfall she may receive. Judgement can be very harsh especially to such an evil, wicked woman! MIKLO

I read all comments. I think the contents of the will should be distributed as stated, initially. I never cared if someone left me something in a will or not. And to fight over it, is disrespecting the deceased. When I ended a relationship (which was 90% of the time),if we lived jointly, I took my own things, or less.If everything was split in half, or what I was entitled to, I would only want what was fair to both parties. I hurt like anyone, but being bitter, or fighting over an ended relationship is just stupid. I have more nice things happen to me by being nice. Not stupid, though. Off topic, but a bit similar.
