Annabelle: Creation scares off box office competition

Annabelle: CreationHorror flick Annabelle: Creation took top spot at the weekend box office, scaring off any chance for a competition from fellow wide release, The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature.

Audiences were eager for the thrills and chills of Annabelle: Creation as the film opened at number one in North America this weekend. The scary sequel to 2014's Annabelle took in a hefty $35 million in its first week. Our users give it a rating of 2 stars out of 5.

Still going strong and remaining in second spot in its fourth week of release was Christopher Nolan's WWII drama, Dunkirk. The film earned $11.4 million this weekend and has now grossed a total of $153.7 million at the North American box office. Our users give the film a 3.5-out-of-5 star rating.

Animated comedy sequel The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature took third in its opening weekend at the box office. The sequel to The Nut Job starring the voice of Will Arnett earned $8.9 million at the North American box office and currently has a rating of 3.6 stars from our users.

After spending its first week at number one, The Dark Tower dropped to fourth spot. The film that features The Gunslinger (Idris Elba) pitted against The Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) in a war for the worlds earned $7.9 million at the weekend box office and has a current gross of $34.3 million. Our users give it a rating of 3.6 stars.

Rounding out the top five is the animated comedy The Emoji Movie. In its third week in theaters, the film made $6.6 million this past weekend. Its gross is now $63.6 million and our users are giving it a rating of 2.6 stars out of 5. ~Alexa Caruso
