Movie Poster - Black WidowShattering pandemic records to beat out A Quiet Place Part II and F9: The Fast Saga, Disney's Black Widow registered $80 million during its opening weekend, in addition to $30 million on Disney+. That put the solo spin-off film starring Scarlett Johansson in the title role as Marvel's biggest launch since Sony's Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019.

F9 came in a distant second place with an estimated $10 million. Last weekend, the film earned $23 million, clinching the top spot. The film's steep drop in profit this weekend can be partially attributed to the arrival of Black Widow, which took locations and IMAX screens. But despite falling to second, the action film starring Vin Diesel has still done exceedingly well at the box office with a total gross of $141 million over three weeks.

The Boss Baby: Family Business came in third place this weekend with $8.7 million. Featuring the voices of Alec Baldwin and James Marsden, the sequel has now earned a total of $34.7 million since it was released on July 2.

Last weekend's new release, The Forever Purge, wound up in fourth place. After a $12.7 million debut last weekend, the horror film added another $6.7 million to create a two-week total of $27.4 million.

Rounding out the top five was Paramount's A Quiet Place Part II. Although it only added $3 million this weekend, the John Krasinski thriller smashed a new record to become the first film to surpass $150 million since the pandemic began. ~Cassandra Coleman
