Dwayne Johnson still serious about presidential run

Published By Tribute on Feb 18, 2021

Dwayne Johnson in BaywatchDwayne Johnson's new sitcom, Young Rock, tells the story of his younger life in a style similar to Forrest Gump. Set in the year 2032, Dwayne, formerly known as "The Rock," recalls experiences of his youth as told by an older version of himself, as he's running for president.

In an interview with USA Today, Dwayne said that a run for the presidency is still on his mind. "I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted. Truly I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people. So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground."

This is not the first time Dwayne has mentioned an interest in running for presidency. In a 2016 interview with People magazine, Dwayne revealed he would seriously consider running for President of the United States.

"I used to say it jokingly but every time I was asked, it was with a real genuine interest. And it was very earnest. And so I started to really think. Could I make a difference? Could I surround myself with really brilliant people to help me make decisions? Do I care about this country? And when the answers continued to come up yes, then I thought, there’s a good chance. Yeah, one day. Then we’ll do another interview like this."

Fast forward to 2021 and Dwayne is still holding the same values, with his new show even visualizing him running for president.

Although the show Young Rock plays with the idea in a more comedic sense, with both his past and recent comments about running for the presidency, the sitcom feels like a hint at his goals for the future. ~Sean Olegario

And which party is he "considering" running for president in? Wouldn't be the first time an actor has run - and won - for president, so he probably has a good chance.

Bad idea. How about if Americans pick someone with actual political experience. We've seen what happens when somebody completely unqualified for a position becomes president.

I'm a fan of Dwayne, and I'd like to see him just do movies.

If he wants another career he should sell insurance for Prudential.

In the past he's identified as Republican, though not a Trumpublican. I imagine if he does still identify as a Republican, then he's closer to a Susan Collins-type -- fiscally conservative, but socially progressive.

Ronald Reagan was an actor he did a great job. So don't judge a person from The Trump problem.

I see a lot of TRUMP haters in here. If you knew anything about politics, you would say that TRUMP was the best president we've ever had. It's very obvious that you only watch and listen to the fake news and I don't really blame you for being shallow. I was born as a democrat and now I really care about AMERICA as did DONALD J. TRUMP. If you voted for Biden, you will see how bad the dems really are. They talk and talk, but the only thing they actualluy do is steal steal and steal.

Ray, watch the documentary Totally Under Control on Amazon and then come back and tell us your thoughts about Trump. It's from the point of view of scientists who tried to get help to the American public when it became clear the pandemic was going to hit, and whenever one of them spoke up to say what exactly was going to happen (we would need to social distance, stores would close, etc.), the government stepped in and silenced them. Trump didn't want anyone to think the economy was going to be disrupted, because that was his key point for winning a second election. So he told the American public the pandemic was going to be nothing, wouldn't affect them. But here's the kicker. There's audio of him in February 2020 talking about how bad the pandemic was going to be and why it was going to be bad, that many people would be killed. But he didn't want Americans to know, because it would affect his presidential run. Watch it and tell us again how he was a great president. He's responsible for over half a million American deaths. He's responsible for many companies going under, for people losing their jobs. He was the worst American president of all time. Impeached twice. Open your eyes and mind and find out what the truth of Trump really is.
