Greta Gerwig regrets working with Woody Allen

Published By Tribute on Jan 10, 2018

Greta GerwigGolden Globe-winning Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig is feeling remorseful after being asked about working with accused child molester Woody Allen in the past.

Gerwig acted under Allen's direction in his 2012 film To Rome With Love but wrote in a recent op-ed for the New York Times: "It is something that I take very seriously and have been thinking deeply about, and it has taken me time to gather my thoughts and say what I mean to say. I can only speak for myself and what I've come to is this: If I had known then what I know now, I would not have acted in the film. I have not worked for him again, and I will not work for him again."

Gerwig is referring to the explosive op-ed that Allen's adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, wrote in the New York Times in 2014 in which she accused her father (who was in a relationship with her mother, actress Mia Farrow) of sexually abusing her when she was a child. Although charges were brought against Allen by Mia Farrow, which were eventually dropped, many in Hollywood continued to work with the director.

This led to Dylan Farrow writing a follow-up piece in which she called out A-listers for continuing to work with Allen after the allegation. Actresses such as  Cate BlanchettKate WinsletBlake Lively and even Gerwig were named. It caught the attention of Gerwig, who now says, "Dylan Farrow’s two different pieces made me realize that I increased another woman’s pain, and I was heartbroken by that realization. I grew up on his movies, and they have informed me as an artist, and I cannot change that fact now, but I can make different decisions moving forward."

It seems Gerwig's regretful stance has won over Farrow, who later tweeted, "Greta, thank you for your voice. Thank you for your words. Please know they are deeply felt and appreciated."

Gerwig's response comes in the midst of women in Hollywood coming together to support the "Time's Up" campaign, which aims to end the sexual harassment women face and aid women seeking justice against their perpetrators. ~Alexa Caruso

New York Times in 2014 in which she accused her stepfather (he was once married to Dylan’s mother, actress Mia Farrow) Mia and Woody never were married, common law or other.(nyc does not recognize common law marriage)and They never lived together.Linda Fairstein, a former prosecutor who headed the Sex Crimes Unit of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office from 1976 to 2002, also refuted the charges against Allen. “Dylan may really believe that Woody abused her,” she told me in 2015. “I just don’t think he did, and I don’t think there’s any evidence that he did.” He was only accused by Mia. After six months of investigation, which included medical examinations, Yale-New Haven Hospital issued its report on March 17, 1993: “Child Sexual Abuse Clinic Evaluation of Dylan Farrow.” It was compiled by Dr. John Leventhal, a pediatrician and director of the hospital’s prestigious Child Sexual Abuse Clinic, and two clinical social workers trained to detect child sexual abuse. Dr. Leventhal had interviewed Dylan nine times and had met with Allen and Farrow. The interviews were exhaustive, and forensic tests were conducted. Allen had to contribute samples of hair from every part of his body. The report completely exonerated Allen of all charges and recommended that Woody and Dylan be reunited quickly. Referring to Farrow’s “very disturbed relationship” with Dylan and Satchel (now Ronan), it said it was “absolutely critical” for Mia Farrow to undertake “intensive psychotherapy to address these relationships.”

David, it's so hard to read when there are no spaces after periods and brackets.

Allen seems in no hurry to work with her again either.

Why did Dylan marry woody if she felt the sting of abuse back then?

Mia Darrow's terrible legacy of bitterness has been passed on to her child. It is sad how a child's well meaning support for a disturbed mother is used to attack the innocent. Let's support real victims.

Well if the above is true (I haven't done any research other than read the above from David Kane) then Woody went through all that stuff with that many doctors and prestigious people and institutes, I don't think this was a case of a celeb getting away with it. That would have been REALLY embarrassing for Woody...and the family. Speaking as a person who was involved in a long drawn out court battle about sexual molestation against my father and I was named as one who was abused, I couldn't believe what my sisters and step mother accused him of. He had to waste so much money defending himself. This was AFTER my step mom had already skimmed plenty of money from the bank account(s) and took all the furniture and left me alone in the home with no freaking furniture and my dad in jail..for NO REAL REASON other than she wanted everything and left. I was on my fathers side because I was a witness and no way in hell was I going to lie for my x-step mother and sister and step sister. Believe me, people can tell a lie and start believing a lie as truth..over time. Just hurts the innocent.
