"They're mostly boring to me right now!" he said with a laugh. "I loved them at the beginning and there are still people trying to do different things [with them], so it's not a 100% rule, but a lot of them are boring. So I think it's about bringing in other elements from different genres."

His first Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, was a huge hit. So much so that a second one was filmed and a third one is in the works.

"I loved the idea of making a supervillain war caper film," he explained. "Films like The Dirty Dozen and Where Eagles Dare, those are of different elements from the backdrop of war and the caper heist element, to the sneaking around, the high stakes, the adventure."

Gunn's new movie, The Suicide Squad, brings back many of the cast and characters from the first movie -- 2016's Suicide Squad -- although Will Smith as Deadshot and Jared Leto as Joker are out.

In the new film, Task Force X is dispatched to the jungle of a remote island on a search-and-destroy mission to locate an old laboratory hiding a terrible secret. Gunn described the appeal of the film for him, saying, "It gave me a great excuse to be able to create a film a genre I've loved since I was a little kid, and do it in a big way and not have to hold back."

New and returning cast members include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Idris Elba as the new assassin Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Michael Rooker as Savant, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as T.D.K., Sean Gunn as Weasel and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

The Suicide Squad is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 6, 2021. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2023.

Superhero movies are boring? Well yeah, but he could've just said "most new movies are boring" and left it at that.

It's not just that they're boring. They're confusing. They've jumped through time, there are alternate timelines, they're just stupid at this point. And nobody cares about Black Widow, that movie was just garbage.

Who asked for his opinion? Why should we care. Just because he makes cool movies doesn't mean he speaks for everyone. I like super hero movies and I don't particularly care whether its Marvel/DC or whatever.
