Nicolas Cage to play Superman in DC movie

Published By Alexandra Heilbron on Mar 15, 2018

Nicolas Cage cast as SupermanLongtime Superman fan Nicolas Cage is finally getting the chance to play his hero in an upcoming DC movie. In the late 1990s, Cage was cast as Superman in Tim Burton's movie, Superman Lives, but unfortunately it was cancelled before filming began.

Cage, who was such a big fan that he once owned Action Comics #1, the first comic book to ever feature Superman, and who even named his son Kal-El, was incredibly disappointed, especially since he'd even undergone costume fittings in preparation to play the Man of Steel.

Note: If you want to know more about what actually happened, check out the 2015 documentary The Death of "Superman Lives"; What Happened? by clicking here. You can also watch the trailer for the movie below, which has footage of Cage in his Superman costume.

However, it has just been revealed that Cage will finally portray Superman when he voices him in the animated film Teen Titans Go! To The Movies. Also providing voices are Kristen Bell as the voice of Jade Wilson and music stars Halsey as Wonder Woman and Lil Yachty as Green Lantern.

Teen Titans Go! To The Movies hits theaters on July 27, 2018.

C'mon -- he's too old -- maybe Supes father or grandfather, but NOT Superman !!!

  2. Bob • 3/15/2018 11:50:25 AM

Are they kidding. First he's too old. Second, he doesn't have the physical built or appearance to appear as superman. And he's not that attractive. I'm guessing he's willing to do the role...cheap$$$. I don't even see him being able to play the role of superman's father or grandfather. Be smart and bring back Henri Cavill. He was perfect for the role of superman. Don't get me wrong. I like Nicolas Cage as an actor and I've seen his movies but to play superman....no way!

Did you people even read the article? He's providing the voice in an animated film.

  4. Nikki • 3/15/2018 12:21:18 PM

People need to read the article, he's voicing Superman, which isn't a bad thing :)

  5. a-nony-mouse • 3/15/2018 1:22:02 PM

Aw, come on guys! You can't expect people to actually read the stuff they comment on! That's too hard!

  6. Kris • 3/15/2018 1:41:36 PM

The level of comprehension these days is deplorable. What horrible schools we have or are people just dumb?

  7. James • 3/15/2018 2:49:29 PM

Nooooo! Anything but that! Love Nicolas Cage is many of his movies, but Superman would be a bad casting choice! I can't imagine Superman with the typical Nicolas Cage waving of the hands quirks or his drawn out speach - both are quirky and even appropriate for other characters, but not Superman!

Way to scroll right past the article in order to complain. Perhaps if you guys had actually read it, you'd have an idea of what Cage is actually doing and realize how dumb you all seem...

I am glad he is not playing the role in real life because I think Cage is not a very good actor at all!

  10. AGE A • 3/15/2018 4:56:06 PM

Not surprised in the least that most complainers did not even take the few minutes it takes to read the article to do just that...READ IT!!! It is the same thing with 99% of what goes on in the wacky world of the internet. Morons bitching about something that they know zero about...

The headline is so misleading - who writes those things anyway?

  12. Sam • 3/15/2018 5:39:56 PM

To those people who say Cage is too old, it’s a voice over role. Teen Titans Go! To the Movies is an animated film.

Absolutely... Cage in a TIM Burton "SUPERMAN movie !!! I love Nicholas Cage, and I really enjoy TIM Burton movies. I like the way TIM puts his own spin on things.. His movies are amazing, and I can't help but think this one will without a doubt be right up there with all his others. Good luck to all, I can't wait.👍🏼👏🏻❤️🙏🏻

Try reading the article first ... people are too much today.. DUH...

  15. Darlene • 3/15/2018 11:29:34 PM

He's too old ... and if it is animated ... his access is not what I considered Superman to talk like ... or Clark Kent. I don't think he can act with the necessary demeanor required to be able to change from Clark Kent to Superman.

  16. Darlene • 3/15/2018 11:30:07 PM

    Accent, not access.

  17. Maxine • 3/16/2018 2:52:56 AM

Come on, he's playing the VOICE of Superman in an ANIMATED movie!! Why nit pik n complain??!

  18. Christina • 3/16/2018 8:10:34 AM

Open your eyes and read! The article stated animated film.....Animated voiceovers, animated verbal script; Not on camara ,not visual. Cage as the 'voice' of superman is like 'ol time action radio! Cage's voice can be very dramatic,so this will be a new spin on a Superman 'animated' film.

Cage sucks as an actor now. His time is past. He should go somewhere on a beach with a drink in his hand and enjoy his retirement!

  20. Marjoree • 3/16/2018 12:07:49 PM

EVERYONE needs to read the article THOROUGHLY BEFORE submitting your I-have-nothing-to-do-and-am-an-idiot-but-have-to-tell-you-my-opinion-because-you-have-to-know comments. Cage IS playing the part of Superman, as it said you can click on the link and see him in his costume (the movie was cancelled before it got a chance to be made) AND on a separate note, he is voicing the character in another separate feature. Read the comments, absorb and understand them, and THEN once you have put 4 or 5 seconds of thought into it, THEN comment! And for goodness sake, TRY to stay ON TOPIC!

    There goes the franchise.

JUST THE VOICE.. DOESN'T ANYONE KNOW HOW TO READ

  23. Snepts • 3/20/2018 1:06:37 PM

    Wish it was a live-action movie. :(

Really looking forward to this Tim Burton version of Superman. Great choice with Nicholas Cage. Loved him in Gladiator.
