Nicole Richie hit in the face during interview - video

Nicole Richie during interviewThe story you're about to read, and the video you may watch (we highly recommend it!), is a prime example of how not to nail an interview.

Reality TV star Nicole Richie was chatting with New York-based Talk Stoop host Cat Greenleaf when, to her surprise (and the viewer's), Cat hit her in the face.

The shocking swing occurs around the 0:20 mark in the four-minute-long video (below), and after Nicole is asked about the greatest news she's heard this week.

Clearly delighted about being in NYC, Nicole replies, "Well, I live in LA and I heard it's going to rain three times this week, so that's pretty..."

As Nicole gets the word "pretty" out of her mouth, Cat raises her hand in an attempt to high five the star. But a friendly gesture somehow turns aggressive when Cat misses Nicole's hand and strikes her in the face instead, sending Nicole's sunglasses flying.

Stunned, Nicole sits with her mouth agape. An aghast Cat says, "Oh my god! Are you okay?"

The 35-year-old fashion designer takes a moment to process the bizarre exchange before hilariously hitting a model pose and cracking a smile, at which point Cat forces a laugh and says, "I'm so sorry... I'm notoriously clumsy."

Never one to miss an opportunity, Lionel Richie's daughter retorts, "I can see that... Out of my left eye only."

The embarrassed host then tries to steer the interview back on track by asking Nicole to share a fun, notorious fact about herself.

Nicole, clearly not ready to let the slap go, replies, "Um, I was just abused, like, two seconds ago..."

Ha! At least the former Simple Life star *appears* to be making light of the incident.
