Pacific Rim Rising wins weekend box office

Topping the box office this weekend was Pacific Rim Uprising. It follows Jaeger pilot Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), who decides to unite with his estranged sister (Rinko Kikuchi) in a global uprising against the forces of extinction. The film earned $28.1 million and has a user rating of 2.3 stars.

Black Panther dropped to second, earning an additional $17 million for a domestic total of $631.4 million and a user rating of 2.3 stars.

Dropping one spot to third was the religious-themed drama I Can Only Imagine, based on a true story. The inspirational film earned $13.6 million for a domestic total of $38 million. It has a rating of 4.5 stars from viewers.

Debuting in fourth was Sherlock Gnomes, which follows Gnomeo (voiced by James McAvoy) and Juliet (voiced by Emily Blunt) as they recruit legendary detective Sherlock Gnomes (voiced by Johnny Depp) to investigate the disappearance of several garden gnomes. The movie earned $10.6 million and has a user rating of 2.5 stars.

Rounding out the top five was the action-adventure Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. It earned $10.1 million for a two-week domestic total of $41.4 million and an impressive 5 stars from our readers. ~Marriska Fernandes

    Shame on Tribute.ca for allowing the Troll (same person) to lower the ratings on the Black Panther movie.
