, a legend on the Broadway stage and two-time Tony winner, called out Madonna in a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen!
The star of Tony-nominated War Paint was asked about what she thought of the blonde songstress' performance of Eva Perón in the film Evita, a role Patti originated on the Broadway stage.
The Broadway actress responded, "Well, I was on the treadmill and when MTV used to have videos, I saw, I believe it was 'Buenos Aires,' and I thought it was a piece of sh-t. Madonna is a movie killer. She's dead behind the eyes. She cannot act her way out of a paper bag. She should not be in film or on stage. She's a wonderful performer for what she does, but she is not an actress."
Seems Patti has a bit of a critical eye when it comes to those who take on roles she's previously portrayed. Glenn Close played Norma Desmond in the 1994 Broadway stage version of Sunset Boulevard. Patti played the part on the London stage, but was replaced by Glenn when the production was brought to New York.
When asked if she would be seeing the show, which is hitting the Broadway stage again with Glenn reprising the role, Patti answered, "Well I was in it. I originated the role so I don’t think I need to see it." Though, she quickly added that she and Glenn are now on good terms.

Madonna may be a "movie killer" but Patti LuPone is a stone-cold beeyatch. Extremely talented but by all accounts (and this article just proves it) not a very nice person. It's really too bad. I've seen her live and she's dynamite. Those comments were entirely unnecessary. Instead of answering them, call out the interviewer for trying to garner headlines. Successful but unfortunate.
Have to say I agree with Patti. Think she is probably as self-absorbed as Madonna is...think their shit don't stink. Madonna needs to start thinking of packing it in as the sexy songstress. She can still sing but be a bit more 'age appropriate' about it. She has had so much plastic surgery, she doesn't even LOOK like Madonna any more. I am not being 'ageist' here......just practical. Pack it in Madge!
I agree as well, Madonna doesn't have the warmth necessary to be an actor. Hell, she doesn't have the warmth necessary to be a mother, that's why her son ran to be with his dad, Guy Ritchie!
Madonna really is a movie killer. She cannot direct or act in them. But this lady is likely upset cause she cannot transition to actual money making films or music herself.
