Prince Charles, Camilla face anger from The Crown fans

Emma Corrin as Diana and Josh O'Connor as Charles in The CrownThere’s been a lot of backlash due to the fourth season of The Crown, which recently debuted on Netflix. Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles seem to be bearing the brunt of it, including on Twitter, where they’ve had to turn off commenting.

Emma Corrin, who plays Princess Diana on the latest season, explained to viewers during an interview on The Tamron Hall Show, "The series that we're in is fictionalized to a great extent. Obviously, it has its roots in reality, but Peter Morgan's scripts are works of fiction.”

Although the series shows Prince Charles conducting an affair with Camilla from the start of his marriage, he said in a 1994 interview that he attempted to be “faithful and honorable” until five years into his marriage, when his relationship with Diana “became irretrievably broken down, us both having tried.”

He claims that it was only at that point that he began seeing the married Parker-Bowles.

However, watching Diana’s unhappiness as she becomes bulimic prior to the wedding has brought the tragedy of her circumstances back into the light as fans of The Crown have been leaving spiteful comments on social media, including the official account: The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall @ClarenceHouse.

After photos were posted of Camilla’s video call with staff and formerly homeless residents of @EmmausUK, a charity that helps the homeless, comments criticizing Camilla were left, including, “Money can buy you fancy clothes and jewelry, but not DIANA’s class or charm or magnetic presence. You can never replace her in a million years. She is our PRINCESS, now and forever!”

An Instagram post in which Camilla congratulated "all the winners and runners-up of the 2020 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition" was met with a number of people leaving a simple message of support for Diana that read: "Diana ❤️" or "Diana forever ❤️"

Have you seen the latest season of The Crown? What did you think of the way Charles and Diana's relationship was portrayed? There's a lot to discuss about the season, including the portrayal of a very brave and understanding Queen Elizabeth when she wakes up to discover an intruder in her bedroom (in reality, the intruder, whose name is Michael Fagan, said in a newspaper interview that she ran away as soon as she saw him).

Also, has anyone spotted the mouse that runs across the floor during the third episode, while the Queen Mother gazes off to the side? Was that a rodent that went unnoticed by the film crew? Or deliberately placed?

I think most of it is accurate, you can look at the documentaries about Diana that are in her own words. She said there were "three in the marriage" and that's why it couldn't work, she admitted to becoming bulemic during the engagement after a comment Charles made about her being chubby (she wasn't), pretty much most of it is just as she said, or as people witnessed it. The only fictional aspects are the private conversations between the two of them, so the writers provided that. Maybe he wasn't mad at her after she pulled a face when he spoke about being married. But he did say during a media outing during their engagement, when questioned about whether he was in love, he said "Yes. Whatever 'in love' means."

Prince Charles is and will always be a dud. He will never be man enough to rise up to the levels of behavior and maturity required to be a monarch. He didn't have the decency to end the marriage with Diana first and then get involved with Camilla. Shame on him. Shame on Camilla. This depiction of the two of them on TV is simply called Karma. It looks good on them both.

I always felt sorry for Diana being married to the out of touch, entitled, man-child that is Prince Charles. It was too late before she understood that Charles would do exactly as he liked and his marriage to her was for show. The Royal Family used her badly, and when she refused to heel, they were left scrambling to damage control. If Charles and Camilla have an issue with 'The Crown' it would only be because their distasteful behaviour has been aired for the public... again. No one has ever accepted Camilla. No one. I think that fact hasn't ever occurred to the Royals. In the grand scheme of things, I fear the Royals are an outdated, entitled, useless institution that should be scaled back. By virtue of birth and nothing else they have power - ridiculous.

Charles did NOT try to make his marriage to Diana work for five years!! He sneaked around behind her back with prune face for a long time before Diana made the public aware of their affair to help explain away her bulimia & fits of deep depression.. Quite simply --- and CLEARLY -- he married Diana to have his children --- nothing else --- prune face was past age of having children & was also already married to someone else. He USED Diana. My heart did & still does go out to her totally. It makes me sick that England has accepted Charles & prune face as a couple & how dare they appear anywhere in public together!!. Eggs & tomatoes &.....other stuff of the brown variety..... should be thrown at them everywhere they go.

I agree with all the above comments - no need for the royals Charles should never be king because of his cheating & divorce & his son, William & his snooty wife (cry baby) are vengeful & got rid of his brother Harry, his wife & son. What a family!! The princess royal works hard & so do Sophie & Edward -but what do you say for worthless & creepy Andrew??? It should be demolished!!!

Yes I did see the mouse in eoisode 3 with rhe Queen Mother scene- i think it was an un noticed mouse that film crew missed -it ran so fast and surely that is not sonething they wanted to highlight - so happy That has been mentioned as no one had noticed it that I have spoken with.

Yes, I saw the mouse and I thought, "Well sure there is a mouse! It's a large castle and it's old. Why wouldn't there be mice!" I felt it was there intentionally because no good editor would miss something so obvious! lol I hope the mouse has more scenes. lol

Wow I’d love to know how perfect each and everyone of the people denigrating Charles and Camila are Have you never been caught up in some thing that you felt was beyond your control and just went with it because you hoped it would work out all right? This sadly goes for both Diana and Charles Then each of them started acting out in horrible ways - Charles with Camilla - Diana mostly tried to hurt herself Sadly and then did everything she could to try and hurt Charles By Belittling him (Definite revenge because she felt belittled which is understandable) and multiple affairs while she was married Give Everyone a break please

I enjoyed season 4 of the Crown, but really everyone with your negativity and your pointing fingers, walk a time in these peoples shoes and then condemn them, what we saw on TV was primarily fiction, and fun TV, but fiction with a smattering of fact.

Charles was an over-privileged immature boy who has grown into an older version. The Crown should by-pass him (I think the queen would agree he’d make a lousy king) in favour of his hard-working grandson William. I believe Harry and his spoiled wife should remain in America and can keep complaining about how badly they were treated

I think it was based on facts. There was a lot of symbolism In this season. The rat being one of them :)

I watched most of it. Somehow I didn't feel Princess Diana, so much coming from that actress. She did a good job, but, I knew it would be difficult to get her bang on. Charles wasn't hunched over like that when he was younger.Camilla seemed too attractive in this role and I didn't know she smoked. I didn't know why they wasted so much time on the intruder in the palace. Seemed like such a non-event to give it that much attention. And Maragaret Thatcher seemed to everywhere and was well done by Gillian Anderson. Not into the royalty, but, it a good big if you can get it!

I don't think that Charles ever wanted his marriage to work, if he did why would he flaunt the cufflinks that Camilla had given him ..why was she at the his wedding. That was a slap in the face to Diana walking up the aisle seeing her sitting there in crowd. Sorry I watched and read all this past stuff ..Charles and Camilla might have been apart for a couple of years but he thought about her all the time treated his wife like she was nothing. I get it that the Royals think that this is how to do things but sorry having a young newly wed bride having to throw herself down a flight of stairs to get his love and attention is all down to him and his upbringing. I have no doubt Diana was in love with that sorry piece of crap he never loved her enough to be honest and faithful she fullfilled his need to do his duty to give the CROWN their heir and spare and then she was tossed aside. She did a lovely job raising those boys, to love honor and treat their families like they matter, she would be so proud of them and how they turned out in no large part of Charles. They learned empathy and love and to show their love and kindness at a young age. I think the crown portrayed Charles and Diana pretty much as it was ..and Camilla doesn't like it because she is now married and portrayed as the home wrecking cheating spouse she was ..people don't forget!

    Princess Diana all the way.

I thought it was a rat. Like Charles!

There are a lot of people on both sides of the Charles and Camilla issue. But, I do remember Charles admitting to have been with Camilla the night before the wedding. So, where was his supposed fidelity? I have watched Charles grow up and have seen a man I would not want to be king of my country. There are incidents from all over his life that overshadow any good he may have done. Prince William seems to be a good man. Time will tell. But at least he would be a better choice to lead the monarchy. In my opinion.

I saw the mouse run across the floor in episode 3, but I agree a large old castle probably has more than one mouse. Also it was upsetting to see how Princes Diana was treated by Charles. I also hate the way the Queen and her mother tried to sweep under a rug all that Charles did wrong like Diana was just to ignore it. I am glad women have come a long way not to agree with that thinking. I do not see a season 5 in the making.

I watched the Crown too. Saw the mouse for sure. Charles says he was faithful but gave Camilla the same ring as Diana choose for engagement and was on the phone to Camilla constantly. Remember when his phone was hacked? wasn't that before he was married? I think he is telling a convenient lie. But lets take a look at his behaviour. When he was keen for Camilla as a young man she was not worthy as a commoner and thus unobtainable. Then her credentials became less of a problem but she was married, again unobtainable. Then he decided to choose a wife, poor Diana and then he was not available. I know they were carrying on but he could not have her 'officially'. Yes Diana dallied with other men but attention and revenge were more her motives. Then after too short a time Dianna's life was snuffed out. How convenient. There is still something in my mind that says the royals ordered that. She was just to unpopular with them and too popular with people to survive their wrath.

I have loved Diana from day 1. She will always be “The People’s’ Princess”. She was a phenomenal mother & we can see the fruits of her mothering in both her sons. Charles was not worthy of her. She should have backed out of the wedding but her sister Lady Jane talked her out of it. Charles ( the horse) & Camilla ( the Rottweiler) can ROT in hell. He should NEVER be KING & the MONARCHY should be ABOLISHED.

Diana never had a chance to be happy as Camilla made sure of that ! Diana was an Amazing person and mother and much too human for that family ! I always admired the Royal Family but after seeing this I have changed my mind... Philip is a poor excuse for a man as is his son Charles they were never taught how to behave as men towards women... Camilla is disgusting and could never measure up to be half the Woman Diana was...Queen Elizabeth is just cold, emotionless I feel sorry for her.. They are truly Privileged and could have made huge contribution to their citizens but most of them were too busy being spoiled and feeling sorry for themselves like Margaret.. I am glad to have watched this as it opens your eyes to how lucky we are to be us as money and power are not Everything!!!
