Quentin Tarantino
has been working on his latest project and is recruiting Hollywood's finest for a drama that will revolve around the Manson Family murders. The yet-to-be-titled film will be written and directed by Tarantino, who is believed to be in the early stages of shopping the project to studios. Longtime collaborators Harvey and Bob Weinstein, who have produced other Tarantino films, are rumored to also be involved.
According to Deadline, Tarantino has met with actress Margot Robbie to see if she is interested in playing the role of Sharon Tate -- the wife of director Roman Polanski -- who was brutally murdered in 1969 by Manson's cult inside her home.
It's also being reported that Samuel L. Jackson will likely have a major role in the film as well, which shouldn't necessarily come as a surprise, because he's appeared in several Tarantino flicks. Brad Pitt, who has also worked with the filmmaker, and Jennifer Lawrence have been contacted about being in the film as well. Likely Jennifer is being considered to play one of Manson's followers.
Tarantino is currently putting finishing touches on the script, and is set to begin production sometime in the summer of 2018. The film would be the director's ninth feature. His most recent project was The Hateful Eight, which starred Samuel L. Jackson and Kurt Russell. ~Brenden Zerihun
Some things are too horrible to be replayed in a movie theatre - this was a particularly grisly murder involving an 8 month pregnant woman and some seriously deranged kids - this one should be left where it belongs - in the past.
I know Tarantino writes great scripts with amazing dialogue for his own original movies, but can he make this with his own flare and still be historically accurate? But really, this haunts people to this day. Maybe best left alone.
I was around when the real thing went down. Definitely not interested in reliving although in an effort to guarantee that Manson never get released I suppose education of generations that might not know anything about it gets done with this release. Otherwise - too disturbing to go through again.
We don't need this. Reading Helter Skelter back then made me almost throw up and it was just the facts and am still haunted by it every time I hear reference to Manson or the case. I can't imagine that Tarantino, the master of gore won't sensationalize this.
I can't understand the fascination with Charlie Manson. He was an untalented, worthless little shit who does not deserve the time of day or another thought about him. Why anyone wants to keep him in the lime light by doing another project about him is beyond me. I like Tarantino's work. I will go see it and I would love to work with him but I don't give a rats ass about Charlie Manson.
People who are disturbed by the subject matter have a simple solution: just don't see the film. It's sad that so many folks are already dismissing the film as trash when not a single frame has been shot yet.
Of course this movie will only sensationalize Charles Manson and his maniacs. Why would Tarantino want to raise this movie again. It's already been done in 1976 and 2004. Have we lost our ability to use our imagination and come up with something new and excited or is it always going to be mundane and a repeat from the past. I wish Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence would not tie their names to this. There is not one redeeming quality to this and only attaches a fantasized element to a real, horrifying event.
It's not a case of labeling it as trash, more of a disturbing nature, which I agree, and it's had its day, many many days in fact.
Many folks all over the net have indeed preemptively dismissed the film as trash. The subject matter is indeed disturbing, but one of the main purposes of art is to confront the disturbing aspects of humanity, both contemporary and historical. This case has indeed been depicted a number of times over the years through different types of media, but in my opinion Tarantino is a very talented filmmaker, and I trust he will depict the terrible events with a fresh perspective. The Manson case resonates to this day, more overtly than many people realize. History, no matter how horrific it was, should be constantly reexamined, not cowered from.
Geeze, can they not make some original movies instead of remakes? Let's see some originality! Tired of seeing the same things over and over!
Can you imagine one of the most beautiful actresses in the world 8 months pregnant being repeatedly stabbed all over her body while begging for mercy for her and her babies life and then having her belly cut open and her baby ripped out of her belly while both are still alive? I can't. But this is how Sharon Tate was murdered in real life. It makes me sick to my stomach whenever I think about it and put myself in her shoes. Incomprehensible. The hero of this story is Sharon Tate's dad who on his own tracked down the bastards who did this and brought them all to justice. The ones who perpetrated this murder are sitting in jail to this day. Reading about real life murders in "Helter Skelter", "In Cold Blood", "The Onion Field" etc. is the scariest, most sickening experience you will ever have. I was a huge fan of Sharon Tate and her sadistic murder was even more disturbing to me because of it. "The Valley of the Dolls" & "The Fearless Vampire Killers" 1967 movie an original horror comedy starring her and featuring her future husband Roman Polanski was the last time I saw her on film. What a juxtaposition to her terrible murder. "Star 80" a 1983 movie about the murder of an extremely nice, popular, naive and beautiful Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten was so very hard to watch as the movie drives towards the inevitable climax where Dorothy gets her head blown off by her jilted maniacal husband played so well by Eric Roberts. That's about as bad as real life could get for Dorothy Stratton and especially Sharon Tate and her family.
The victims suffered horribly, but that whole thing about Sharon Tate's belly sliced open and her baby being removed by the killers is completely false. It was a rumour borne out of hysteria. There was a lot of mad speculation about these crimes, and sadly some of stories persist to this day.
Tarantino is just a sensationalist who has a huge ego fed by many people who think his work is good. His work is by no means worthy of any praise. Tarantino's so called work has been meant only to prop up his lack lustre almost self-identified talent, in this case with a rehash of The Manson Murders whose story has been overdone and overexposed by many. Too many other talented people in Hollywood have resorted to these pronouncements in order to stay in the limelight. It is called taking the easy way out. I do not know for sure but I think every angle of the Manson Murders have been exploited in some way or another. It would be far more interesting if Tarantino and others of his ilk could provide something more creative, entertaining, educational (yes, even in horror and thrillers) as well as something new instead of rehashing something so overdone and overused for the pursuit of money for his(their) pockets. Really, how many times does anyone who has had horrific things happen in their own and their families lives have to relive the same things over and over. I know, just do not go see the gory Hollywood enhanced truth. Why yes, I surely will not support such garbage.
I was 7 when it happened, I remember it was all over the news. I didn't understand it until I was about 14, even then I couldn't grasp the absolute horror of it. I read Vincent Bugliosi's Helter Skelter book at 16 and finally I got it. I have mixed feelings about a movie and I'm sure that psycho Charlie will be dancing in his cell over it if it happens. If Tarantino doesn't sensationalize it it might be well worth watching...However, if he's just going for the shock factor of blood and guts, especially regarding the murder of poor eight and half months pregnant Sharon Tate then I think it'll just be garbage. I hope he does it respectfully, well as respectfully as one can when it comes to a horrific night of murder.
As a huge Tarantino fan I am looking forward to seeing what he does with this story . I'm sure he will provide us with a stellar twisted Tarantino masterpiece . Hope he ignores all the naysayers and does what he does best ... Entertains us !
I always enjoy the reminder of the definition of American evil, Charlie Manson. In prison, Charles Manson had a swastika drawn on his forehead. The Nazis defined what on evil German is. Charles Manson's mother was a prostitute and the son a pimp. In counties in Nevada Americans pretend prostitutes are harmless but the Manson family warn of the truth.
Previous comments have covered it well. I have trouble thinking why this film should happen. I think of "10 Rillington Place", which depicts how mundane evil can be, but the Manson murders, over the course of time, have been discussed SO much, in all media. And will be every time one of that group dies, or comes up for parole. Tarantino should pass on this. I can't see this being his "Schindler ' s List", or anything like that.
Supremely bad idea, unless he has more information that has never been released. But knowing Tarantino's work, he's just out to make a bloodfest, which is disgusting because he's just trying to make money from the deaths of innocent people.
