British actor Damian Lewis, who won a Golden Globe for his starring role in the series Homeland, is portraying Rob Ford, the controversial late Mayor of Toronto in the biopic Run This Town.
The independent film is currently filming in Toronto and co-stars Nina Dobrev and Scott Speedman. Although plot details are being kept under wraps, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie follows a reporter played by Ben Platt, who attempts to expose a scandal involving a mayor. Dobrev will play one of the mayor's aides, who struggles to keep his wild exploits quiet.
Ford, who was elected mayor of Toronto twice, was the subject of controversy during his second term, especially after Toronto Star reporters claimed they'd seen a cell phone video showing Ford smoking crack cocaine. Although Ford denied it at first, he eventually admitted to being in the video and checked into rehab for substance abuse.
Ford was diagnosed with cancer in September 2014 when a massive tumor was found in his abdomen. He underwent chemotherapy, but passed away in March 2016 at the age of 46. ~Alexandra Heilbron
He doesn't look anything like him, he'll need a lot of prosthetics. Sounds like it might be good though
Damian Lewis will nail it. Love him in Billions. Love Billions.
ummmm did he gain 200lbs?
We, the citizens of Toronto, thank you for keeping the nightmare alive.
Damien Lewis is a genius. He was phenomenal in Homeland and sly n slimy in Billions! Band of Brothers to I seem to recall. Should be very interesting. The weight thing is incidental to the main story of addiction and wildness. Looking forward to it. Rob Ford a casualty of addiction.
Not sure about this casting decision. This guy looks super creepy.
These are some incredible devices that I certainly use for SEO work. This is an incredible rundown to use later on..
Why not just cast his brother Doug?
