Ryan Phillippe accused of abuse, authorities won't prosecute

Published By Tribute on Sep 21, 2017

Ryan Phillippe's ex-girlfriend, model Elsie Hewitt, 21, is accusing him of attacking her and throwing her down the stairs back on July 4.

But law enforcement doesn't think Elsie's story adds up. A full investigation was launched after the allegations were made, but the L.A. City Attorney refused to prosecute, saying there was insufficient evidence. Elsie has sued Ryan anyway, and he has launched a countersuit for defamation.

Ryan, 43, reportedly cooperated with authorities and answered their questions without having a lawyer present, giving the impression he had nothing to hide. They say he was shocked to learn he was being investigated in the first place.

In the suit, Elsie claims Ryan "grabbed [her] upper arm so tightly that his grip left heavy bruises on her arm hours later. He then braced his body and threw her down his staircase as hard as he could." Despite Elsie's photographs of bruises on her arms and legs and a gash below her knee, authorities argue that the stairs Elsie alleges she was thrown down would have left her with much worse injuries than she reported.

Ryan has continued to maintain his innocence and has made it clear he has nothing to hide, saying in a tweet, "At the time these allegations were initially made, I fully cooperated with law enforcement and a thorough investigation was conducted."

He added, "Domestic violence is a very real and tragic issue faced by many women the world over and should never be used to vengefully slander or as a ploy for monetary gain... Every one of my accuser's allegations are false."

I too am saddened and disgusted. Once again we have another jerk thinking he can lie his way out of something like this. And for the moment I guess he can. So here we go again. I for one believe this girl because it is very hard for females to admit they've been abused. Its even worse when they are not believed. Kudos for her bravery in speaking up anyways. Keep on keeping on Ryan Phillippe because one day karma will catch up to you. Maybe you'll push the wrong female one day and it might be you who gets pummelled. Fingers crossed.

Hey now you wren't there. There's always 3 sides to a story.

typical. I repeat... I believe her.

This lady must believe that men do not get abused by the opposite sex either. So much for equality.

So Cathi... you dont think in ANY way that she could be making this up? Ryan Phillippe in his entire public career, not once was there any Violent intercations. At all. You'd think that if he had viloenet tendancies, Reese Witherspoon would come out and say "Ya, this is entirely possible." An investigation concluded that the allegations were not true. Because the girl said He did it, it does not mean he did. People lie about things like this All the Time. Here is the bigger question though. If Ryan Phillippe sais she had attacked him and left bruises and threw him down a flight of stairs. Would you believe him?

The fact that he's never been accused of violent outbursts before means nothing. Johnny Depp had never committed any violence before he married that lesbian. Does that mean he didn't do that? And if Ryan Phillippe said she attacked him and left bruises and threw him down a flight of stairs, why wouldn't I believe him? Especially if she was bigger than him and had the strength to overpower him. Oh but wait. Tiny model. Yeah, never mind. I wouldn't believe him.

Cathi is probably in some state of mental distress herself? I sure wouldn't want her on a jury!

Has anyone caught on to the fact that he has an 18 year old daughter with Reese? This girl is three years older than his daughter. That's a serious gross out factor. And men who go for young girls often want to dominate them. It wouldn't surprise me if he did it. But he gets off because he's a celebrity and police hate arresting celebrities. That goes for judges too. He'd have to do a lot worse, like what Chris Brown did to Rihanna, for anyone to charge him.

I have to agree, Bernie, a man who dates a girl young enough to be his daughter is a bit creepy and therefore may simply know how to manipulate the press around him. the first words out of his mouth were about 'cooperating fully'. Whoop-di-do. Why wouldn't a person cooperate fully when they know that the police will make a negative comment about them if they "don't" cooperate? Are we supposed to applaud him for answering their questions? I thought it was strange that the cops didn't believe her because her bruises and cuts weren't "worse" because of the type of stairs. People bruise differently depending on unique physical factors, so I thought their conclusion was lame, at best.

Thank you all for confirming for me that humanity is lazy. From the paucity of information, none of you can make any kind of valid judgement on the matter (on either his guilt or innocence). You don't know the context of the incident. You don't know his past history. You don't know her past history. You haven't seen the scene of the incident. You don't know the abilities or motivations of the officers investigating the incident. You don't know the motivations of those reporting the incident. (except that they want you to read their story) Thank you.

I hate this shit, more since the scam on Paul McCartney.... After reviewing, trying to find out more...and reading ...said Texts...WHICH...a friend can create an account under any name... and anyone can screen shot and save and use...we are not dumb...right!? Ok..but I cannot fix stupid! They said, he pushed her more than once down the stairs....You know what...I fell down my back stairs, slipped on ice...one flight...I was bruised on so many parts of my body...and I was 23. No one pushed me...but I had my neck out of place, my back bruised and my face was cut. I ended up within a few days with more bruises...

I am always intrigued when a female will believe anything another woman says when it comes to alleged violence at the hand of a man. Facts be damned, if she says he did it , just throw the book at him and we don't need to confirm the story. Lets see, i seem to remember a case from a few years ago where a young lady in California alleged rape at the hands of a promising football player who was very talented and on his way to a free education at a major institution and likely a lucrative NFL career. Well I guess her story led enough of the jury to find this poor guy guilty , and bye bye to your future for you. Five years or so later, the guy is rotting in prison when miss truthful comes forward and admits , oh sorry " I lied " and he did nothing illegal. Wow and that restores that poor guys life how exactly ? We need proof in this day and age , it is too easy for women to use accusations as weapon in relationship disputes, or as Ryan said as a tool to extort something.

I do not know the truth about this incident but the others posting here don't know either and I don't believe assumptions on social media are wise or helpful. People of both genders will lie for many reasons. Yes, people of both gender who have been abused often find it hard to come forward and confront or turn in their abusers but there are others that will falsefullly accuse people of abuse because it is a powerful accusation. We should not blindly believe what anyone says, people lie for self protect and for gain and this could be either. It is often hard to prove or disprove abuse but an accusation whether true or not can harm both the guilty and the innocent so if weilded by the untrustworthy it can destroy a career, a person, a life. Just because he is famous doesn't mean he is innocent or guilty. I have seen both sides, men accused unjustly by a spouse as she left in a power play move which was later uncovered and admitted to but not before damage done. And I have seen abused women not believed and damage done. We must investigate both sides, protect the truth and the innocent. We should not ASSUME we KNOW the truth.
