Star Wars: The Last Jedi character reunion confirmed

Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)Potential story spoiler ahead! But it seems it has finally been confirmed that Star Wars siblings Luke and Leia will be reuniting in the highly-anticipated eighth installment of the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

At the Comic Con Chile convention, Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo confirmed the Skywalker siblings would appear together in the film. Mark Hamill and the late Carrie Fisher were also shown to be on set together in the Vanity Fair Star Wars set visit.

Due to issues with translation, it was thought Hidalgo was referring only to the actors reuniting on set for the Vanity Fair photo shoot, and would not necessarily be appearing together on screen.

But now, further clarification from Star Wars News Net via Spanish Star Wars fan site Prensa Imperial confirms that there will indeed be a reunion of the two beloved characters in a scene: "I confirmed this with Pablo himself when it was my turn to sign the poster for The Last Jedi...Pablo, kindly (and very nice) said yes, in a scene Luke and Leia would meet and made the meeting gesture, something like: (fist bumps)."

The Last Jedi is a continuation of the 2015 Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which saw a small but key appearance by Luke Skywalker at the end of the film. It can be presumed that the film will focus more intently on Luke as the "last" Jedi. Promotional material from the film has also shown him training Rey (Daisy Ridley) as his new protégé.

With more updates from the film filtering through before its release, it's becoming apparent that this installment might be the most epic one yet in the franchise!

I really hate unsubstantiated rumours. Facts people. But honestly, would just prefer to see it all in the theatre. Don't ruin the movie for me by telling me too much in advance.

Hope it happens. This was their last chance to have a Luke/Leia reunion, it better happen in the next movie.
