Expected to win the box office for a second weekend, John Krasinski‘s A Quiet Place Part II instead finished in second place. The highly anticipated horror sequel starring Emily Blunt as a mother struggling to survive as she and her two children are surrounded by creatures who hunt by sound, earned $19.5 million for a total domestic gross of $88.6 million.
Cruella, starring Emma Stone in the title role and Emma Thompson as her mentor, dropped to third place after making its debut in second place last weekend. The weekend's other new wide release was Spirit Untamed, which debuted in fourth place with $6.2 million. The animated family-friendly film follows Lucky and her new friends as they embark on the adventure of a lifetime to rescue a wild mustang named Spirit.
Rounding out the top five was Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon, now in its fourteenth weekend in theaters and available now for free to all Disney+ subscribers. Dropping two spots from last weekend’s third place finish, the animated film brought in an additional $1.3 million for a domestic total of $53.5 million.
