It’s no surprise Wonder Woman is the hero of the box office as the stand-alone superhero film took top spot, fending off fellow new release Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and previous box office champ, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Wonder Woman is the newest addition to the DC Extended Universe, and being so highly anticipated, it comes as no shock that the film was a hit with audiences, taking in $100.5 million in its first weekend of release at the box office. Our users are loving the film as well, giving it a 4.7-star rating.
Soaring into second in its opening weekend was another superhero film, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. The family friendly comedy grossed $23.5 million at the weekend box office and received a rating of 3.1 stars from our users.
In third spot in its second week of release was Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film earned $21.6 million at the box office this weekend and has a current domestic gross of $114.6 million. Our users have given it a rating of 3.7 out of 5 stars.
Coming in fourth place was the out-of-this-world hit Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. After five weeks in the top five, the film has grossed $355.5 million in domestic sales, with $9.7 million of that earned this weekend. The film has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars from our users.
Rounding out the top five was the beach action-comedy Baywatch. The film earned $8.5 million in its second week of release, making its current domestic gross $41.7 million. Our users have given the film a 3.4-out-of-5-star rating. ~Alexa Caruso
