Wonder Woman fights off Pirates to become box office hero

Published By Tribute on Jun 04, 2017

Wonder WomanIt’s no surprise Wonder Woman is the hero of the box office as the stand-alone superhero film took top spot, fending off fellow new release Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and previous box office champ, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Wonder Woman is the newest addition to the DC Extended Universe, and being so highly anticipated, it comes as no shock that the film was a hit with audiences, taking in $100.5 million in its first weekend of release at the box office. Our users are loving the film as well, giving it a 4.7-star rating.

Soaring into second in its opening weekend was another superhero film, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. The family friendly comedy grossed $23.5 million at the weekend box office and received a rating of 3.1 stars from our users.

In third spot in its second week of release was Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film earned $21.6 million at the box office this weekend and has a current domestic gross of $114.6 million. Our users have given it a rating of 3.7 out of 5 stars.

Coming in fourth place was the out-of-this-world hit Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. After five weeks in the top five, the film has grossed $355.5 million in domestic sales, with $9.7 million of that earned this weekend. The film has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars from our users.

Rounding out the top five was the beach action-comedy Baywatch. The film earned $8.5 million in its second week of release, making its current domestic gross $41.7 million. Our users have given the film a 3.4-out-of-5-star rating. ~Alexa Caruso
