This was an amazing movie I thoroughly enjoyed this. Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman stole the show. I predict it will sweep awards season.
Excellent movie. Very entertaining and good portrayal of timeless storyline.
I love this film so much best song is One Day More, ABC Cafe / Red and Black,On My Own and Javert's Suicide and Empty Chairs at Empty Tables those were so emotional and beautifully done and the acting was amazing even Russell Crowe was perfect
FANTASTIC!! A must watch..
4.5*, make sure you take your Kleenex. Excellent cast. Just one tiny flaw is Russell Crowe is not a good singer but he is able to carry a tune. The best singers are Eponine and Enjolras. Loved Hugh Jackman! A must have on bluray!
Great Movie. All the actors were great.
Superb! Hugh Jackman is outstanding. A must see.
It starts out slow, I was wondering if this was a bad choice of movies...but then it builds and builds until the end when I was thinking....wow this is one of those rare movies that can move you more than you know.
Must see!!!
I haven't seen the play but have to believe with real singers it would be palatable to watch. I couldn't watch this without feeling almost sick to my stomach at the terrible singing - actors act, singers sing... this was an abomination. Perhaps it needed the star power to bring the story to people who won't pay to see it sung by real vocalists. Too bad. I think a do-over is in order.
To many unanswered questions. After watching the entire movie I still couldn't figure out which guy was Les.
Not generally a fan of musicals, but this was really special. Amazing acting, settings, costumes. A must see!
Does not do the musical play any justice.
An excellent movie that hits all the right notes. The absolute only minor negative comment I can make that it was (from my perspective only) a bit too long.
I'll see this again, my husband and I were so moved by the end. Amazing movie.
An must see movie for sure. Truly amazing.
Anne Hathaway stole the movie! She was phenomenal! Weak parts included a particular sound effect for Javier, which made half our row laugh and how mismatched it was. Some actors just didn't fully fit the rolls of their characters. For example, Russel Crowe just didn't have the strength in his voice to carry off the power of Javier. That said, I really enjoyed it and would watch it again! 4 stars.
love it
What a great movie!!! unbelievable that they did all the singing live. Def with the hype and Oscar preformance... a must see Movie
WOW!!!!!!!! That is all
Best movie of the year. See it, and then see it again.
I am a huge fan of this musical but to be honest I felt that it was way too much singing to be a movie. Looking at other adaptations such as Phantom and Rent, they changed a few parts to be speaking instead of singing-which made more sense for the big screen. Here people just sang and sang and well...it didn't work for me.
love this movie and i loved anne hataway and amanda synfried
I am amazed by the fact that only one or maybe two of the 46 commentators know that Les Miserable is a book written by Victor Hugo and published in 1862. I've read it when I was 14 or 15 and I studied it later in school. But what can one expect in this instant information age when people forget what books are for and become more and more ignorant and proud to be so. So, take note, Les Miserable is not a screen play but a famous book and whatever movies, theatre plays, musicals and crap were all based on it. They all owe their succes to Victor Hugo first, the guy who wrote the book way before movies were invented. And by the way, Victor Hugo is a great classic French writer known to most o
I'd give 10 stars for this if I could. I thought it was perfectly cast and felt that Anne Hathaway was absolutely brilliant. I was thrilled to see that Colm Wilkinson was also included as the kind bishop who gave Jean Valjean that chance to turn his life around when he was caught stealing from the church. For those who might not know...Colm Wilkinson was the original Jean Valjean in both the London and New York broadway productions of Les Mis back in the 80's. A wonderful tip of the hat to a broadway legend! LOVED this movie!
This could have been a 4-5 hour movie, but the director kept the pace and essence of the stage production thus the movie flowed really well. Great singing and acting performances by all, especially HJ,AH,SB and ER. While not great,RC's singing surpassed my expectations. The packed theatre was riveted, mesmorized and emotional. Those who have never seen the musical production for whatever reason have a chance now to see the show on the big screen, with big sound and great scenes. A MUST SEE!!!
Not as good as i expected.
never saw the play. anne hathaway is amazing-great voice and great thinness and parched lips hugh jackman-delicious when cleaned up! got teary but person behind me wept and blew nose tons :)
Loved Movie. Good Story Line,Excellent singing.
At the end, the viewing audience stood and gave a standing ovation, clapping and cheering. 'nuff said! Brilliant!!!
Best movie of the year so far. Great live singing by all of the cast.
LOVED it. I'd seen the musical several times and wasn't sure what to expect from the movie. It didn't disappoint. Took my husband and son who also loved the movie. Great cast of characters and great singing. I thought Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe were both excellent. Should definitely be some Oscar nominations/winners in this movie.
The happy ending was a nice bonus!
Eddie Redmayne who played Marius also has an amazing voice, capable of such emotion and range as demonstrated in Empty Chairs and Empty Tables.
The negative comments about Russell Crowe are wrong. You really aren't giving much credit to a fabulous director who cast everyone perfectly. Russell's voice perfectly suits the character of Jauvert.
Someone thought Anna Kendrick was in this movie? You must have mistaken Samantha Barks as Eponine. She played the part on Broadway. She did a great job with On My Own and A Little Drop of Rain duet with Marius. She was just as good as Anne.
Much, MUCH, better than I expected it to be. I've read the book but never saw the musical, and didn't know the score, so it all took me by surprise. I thought all the performances were terrific. Disagree with others here who thought Crowe was miscast, I thought he was excellent and sang well. Ms Hathaway was, however, stunning. Great movie.
Was overwhelmed by the "I Dreamed A Dream" sung by Ann Hathaway and the over the top acting of both Hathaway and Jackman. I didn't enjoy the singing by Russell Crowe, thought he was out of his depth in this musical.
Might have been 5 stars, but I was unfortunate enough to have a very rude theatre patron munching on NACHOS during "I Dreamed a Dream"....totally ruined the experience for me. Please people, show some respect for other theatre goers.
As a fan of the stage musical, I was very excited about the prospects of this movie. I think the end result was very good, but not great. Hathaway was breathtaking, Jackman was excellent and several of the other actors did excellent work. Crowe was miscast and his vocals showed it. Given the task they were given, the production team did an admirable job. I will say, however, that I am firmly on the Hathaway Oscar Bandwagon....
