John Krasinski reveals why he lost Captain America role

John Krasinski talks about Captain America role

By most standards, John Krasinski's got the goods. But during an appearance on Conan, the actor opened up about what he lacks -- at least in reference to another actor.

John, who's promoting his new film The Hollars, revealed to Conan that he tested to play Captain America. For him, it was a special moment.

He said, "It was a big deal for me because first of all, I love Marvel movies. I love superheros. I love imagination. So when they asked me to test, they actually allowed me to put on the suit, I was on a set, it was all very interesting..."

But as he was suiting up, he had a chance encounter with a particularly chiseled, well-built Australian actor that quickly altered his experience.

John confessed, "The only bummer of it was, I was putting on the suit... And I got about right to my waist, I was still shirtless, feeling pretty good about myself... And all of a sudden, Chris Hemsworth walked by as Thor... He went, 'Hey mate,' and I went, 'I'm good, this is stupid. It's okay, I'm not Captain America. It's fine.'"

Fair enough, John. Not everyone has the muscles of Thor. But if 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi is any indication, you know how to whip yourself into shape.

The Hollars, which John both directed and stars in, opens in the U.S. on Friday, August 26.

Watch John explain the hilarious situation to Conan below.

What do you think? Could John have pulled off the Captain America role? Let us know!

While I would definitely shag Chris Hemsworth, I would totally marry John Krasinski. He's cute AF.

Now nobody can think of anyone playing Cap Am except for Chris Evans. I think he could have made a decent Cap Am if he bulked up. He has the height.

    He's not vanilla enough

He makes the grade as far as I'm concerned. But so does Chris Hemsworth... And so does Chris Evans... But I want no part of Chris Pine.

Yes, he would have been great!

It doesn't matter who plays him, Captain America is the blandest character in the Marvel universe.
